What is Giving Blueday?

Giving Blueday is the University of Michigan’s annual day of giving. It is scheduled to coincide with Giving Tuesday – the global day of giving that follows Thanksgiving. On Giving Blueday (Tuesday, December 3rd), the University of Michigan invites everyone who is passionate about Michigan to support what they love about the University by making a donation between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.

Why donate to the
U-M Department of Physics?

This year, the Department of Physics is asking for your to help support undergraduates. The late Michigan Physicist, Dr. Homer A. Neal was a world leader in higher education. He devoted his career to ensure cutting-edge science was available to a broad range of students. He was pivotal in creating one of the first national research experience programs for undergraduates. At Michigan, he initiated and developed the popular CERN Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program for students to participate in pioneering research at CERN every summer.

Dr. Neal, who also served as the President of the American Physical Society and as Vice President for Research and Interim President of the University of Michigan, said his own experience at CERN impacted him greatly:

Let's continue what Dr. Neal started!

Your 2019 Giving Blueday gift will honor Dr. Neal and give students a research experience in an international or national laboratory such as CERN in Switzerland, J-PARC in Japan, Fermilab in Illinois, or LIGO in Washington or Louisiana. Your donation will help us create an inclusive educational environment by helping all students access research experiences.

Please donate to this worthy cause by visiting our campaign webpage on Tuesday, December 3rd between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. Your donation is very much appreciated.
