RLL Celebrates the Class of 2023
On April 27th, 2023, RLL hosted its second commencement ceremony at the Michigan Theater. Associate Chair, Nick Henriksen, emceed the event which honored all 259 of RLL's graduating majors and minors. The Michigan Theater continues to provide an amazing venue for this event. (Here is a link to the full program for the ceremony.)
We want to take this opportunity to spotlight our student speakers and achievement award winners. RLL has two endowed awards that were made possible by gifts from the Levin and Vincenti families. We are forever grateful for their generosity.
We also recognized individual students for their academic achievements in their major or minor. All of the award winners were nominated and selected by their professors.
Fiona Caughey was awarded the Chiara Maria Levin Award for Breadth and Excellence in the Romance Languages. This award was created in memory of Chiara Levin, an RLL alumni who graduated with honors in 2006 and excelled in all four Romance languages taught here at U-M. This award is meant to encourage exceptional students, like Chiara, to excel in more than one Romance language.
Julia Tweadey received the Guido Anthony and Agnes Nicolini Vincenti Award for an Outstanding Honors Thesis in Romance Languages and Literatures for her thesis "En busca de la histeria en la Iberia medieval" ("In Search of Hysteria in Medieval Iberia"). The award was created in 1989 by Nataline Scott in memory of her parents and it bears their names.
Congratulations to the class of 2023!
