The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) is a place of remarkable creativity, discovery, and vitality.
Housed within the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), RLL teaches the Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish languages along with the values, ethics, cultures, and complex histories of the people who live in the places where those languages are spoken.
RLL offers a global curriculum that advances language proficiency, insists on cross-cultural understanding as a fundamental component in teaching social and cultural difference, addresses the socio-historical and cultural realities of diversity, and advocates for equity. We embrace diversity and recognize that personal self-identification should not be subject to debate.
Each year, thousands of students from across U-M take our courses. Some of them will choose to pursue one of our majors or minors and others will use our classes to meet their language requirement.
RLL seeks to build a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for our students and employees. We seek like-minded individuals to join our department.
RLL employs people in a variety of roles. Please click on any of the links below to learn more about current job opportunities that match your interests.
