Returning Students

On this page:

Students who previously attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and are interested in returning may follow the steps below, as they are applicable.

Meet with an advisor

We encourage all returning students to meet with an academic advisor to create a re-entry plan. You may schedule through MyAdvising or the links below:

Check account status

Re-enroll or reactivate accounts

Re-enrollment: for students with ACTIVE accounts

Reactivation: For students with INACTIVE accounts

  • Students may apply for reactivation for the Fall or Winter terms.
    Deadlines:
    • July 1 for Fall term reactivation
    • Nov 1 for Winter term reactivation
  • Reactivation for Spring or Summer terms will only be considered in special circumstances.

When students will hear about their reactivation requests

Some students apply for reactivation quite early and wonder why they haven't heard back about their request. That's because requests are processed on a strict timeline:

  • For fall term: requests are processed in March
  • For winter term: requests are processed in October

Get reinstated

Students who were academically suspended or recessed may apply for reinstatement after a one year absence from the U-M Ann Arbor.

  • Students can only request reinstatement for the Fall or Winter terms.
    Deadlines:
    • July 1 for Fall term reinstatement
    • Nov 1 for Winter term reinstatement
  • Reinstatement into Spring or Summer terms will only be considered in special circumstances.
  • Note: Students must meet with a Student Success Advisor before the start of the term they return to create a re-entry plan. Their registration may be canceled if they do not have this meeting. To schedule an appointment with a Student Success Advisor use the links below:
