Building Leaders Through Positive Psychology in a Global Context
I have always been interested in the dynamics within an organization, specifically how different traits can be harnessed and used to develop leaders. With my Psychology major, I’ve been especially interested in the individual and how their experiences can affect their outlooks and leadership styles, which when understood, can be channeled to create effective leaders. By understanding human capital, we can grow and improve workplace dynamics to help organizations thrive, all the way down to the individual. It is also important to learn and build on the concept of not only creating efficient, thriving organizations, but how they can be sustained and which practices or ideas can be useful in the long-run of an organization.
Another concept I’m interested in is incorporating positive psychology into building leaders, by looking more into motivation and decision making, focusing on strengths of a team, more than the weaknesses. To create an environment where employees want to work and thrive, there needs to be an emphasis on well-being, collaboration, and openness.
With my German background, I also hope to expand these ideas and thoughts on a global level, building on the differences, but also similarities that cultures share to create robust leadership development for any organization. Looking through a global lens can give good insight on differences in communication, cultural values, and dynamics. Broadening views and changing perspectives outside of a culture can further promote tolerance and respect, building on the foundation of positive psychology in an organization.
