Prerequisites

• Three prerequisite courses are required for all applicants: 
  • Intro Psychology (Psych 111, 112, 114, or 115)
  • Intro Sociology (Soc 100, 102, 195, 300 or 302)
  • Microeconomics (Econ 101)

• You must have at least two prerequisites completed and be enrolled in the third prerequisite at the time of application.

• Prerequisite courses may be taken on a P/F basis. Letter grades will be retrieved from U-M records and considered in the OS admissions process.

• There is no minimum grade required in the prerequisites, but admission is competitive, so it is important to maintain a strong cumulative GPA and have an alternative plan when preparing to apply.

• AP/IB/A-Level credit in Psych and/or Microeconomics is acceptable to fulfill the OS application prerequisites. While AP Econ credit is accepted as an OS prerequisite, it is not equivalent to Econ 101 at UM, and students planning to pursue further Econ classes should also take Econ 101. 

• Exact equivalent transfer credit is accepted to fulfill any of the OS prerequisites. It is important to verify that the course you plan to take elsewhere will transfer as "equivalent" credit. Other Considerations

• The Organizational Studies major is designed to be a 2-year program. It is recommended that interested students apply during the winter term of their sophomore year. Students may only apply to the OS program once.

• Juniors may apply to the program, but it is not possible to complete the OS program in one year. Students who apply as Juniors will be required to commit to the program for at least three full semesters after admission (fall-winter-fall). Please see an OS prospective student advisor if you have any questions about the OS curriculum sequencing.

• OS welcomes applications from students who have transferred to UM or are in the process of transferring to UM. If you are a transfer student applying simultaneously to UM-AA and OS for the same fall term, please contact org.studies@umich.edu as early as possible for specific instructions.  All transfer students should contact the LSA Transfer Student Center for information, and should make a prospective student appointment with an OS advisor or peer mentor as early as possible!
