Addressing Healthcare Inefficiencies Using Strategic Business Management Principles
My pathway focuses on addressing inefficiencies in healthcare by applying strategic business management principles to create a more effective and equitable system. I am interested in understanding how healthcare organizations operate, how access is structured, and how money dictates patient outcomes. Issues such as rising insurance premiums, shrinking employer coverage, income disparities, profit-driven unnecessary testing, and extreme drug pricing reveal that healthcare cannot be separated from business, economics, sociology, and psychology. I view organizations as complex, interconnected systems, similar to living organisms, where each part must function collaboratively to succeed. This perspective became especially clear as I studied healthcare as an institution, where structural decisions directly impact patient outcomes. Through my coursework, I want to deepen my understanding of organizational strategy and decision-making, applying these insights to the healthcare system. I am motivated to drive organizational and systemic changes that improve efficiency while meaningfully supporting patients and ensuring more equitable access for all stakeholders.
