If a student has notified the instructor of a religious observance that conflicts with an examination or other in-class assessment, and such notification occurred by to the Add/Drop deadline, and the student and instructor do not agree on an alternative accommodation, then (notwithstanding other provisions of this policy) the student shall be given the opportunity to take a similar assessment without penalty, and the teacher may stipulate that it must be taken after the regular assessment and as early as the first university business day that does not conflict with the religious observance. The instructor is not expected to accommodate long distance travel associated with undertaking religious observances away from campus.
In case of daylight fasting, a student requesting accommodation to avoid taking an exam scheduled to overlap the period from 1:00 PM to 1 hour after sunset may request an alternative exam time. The instructor may stipulate whether the make-up assessment will be taken in the evening (i.e., after breaking the fast) or in the morning (i.e., after a pre-fast meal).
