Alumni and Friends

Today there are 14,000 Department of Economics alumni who can be found—literally—all across the world. But wherever you are, you are always “home” when you visit this website or stop by Lorch Hall when you are in “old Ann Arbor town”.

Staying in touch with our alumni is important. In addition to this website, each of you receives the annual Department newsletter MichEcon News (be sure to send any address changes to the Alumni Records Office . Both will keep you up-to-date with information about the Department, its faculty and students, as well as events and seminars.

But we want to hear from you as well so be sure to add econ-alumnews@umich.edu to your address book (or drop us a note at: Economics Alumni News, 238 Lorch Hall, 611 Tappan St., Ann Arbor, MI  48109-1220). Do you have a favorite memory from your college days? Who were some of your favorite professors? A memorable anecdote? Why did you decide to major in economics? As you think back over your career since graduating, what course or faculty member has proved to be most helpful? What advice do you have for our students today? And don’t forget to send us news of your recent accomplishments and transitions so we can include that in our Class Notes.

Do you have an interest in speaking to students? Our undergraduates welcome opportunities to hear what alumni have done with their Economics degree, to learn about possible career paths and opportunities, as well as get advice from Economics alumni. If this is something that appeals to you, again, drop us a note (to the same addresses above).

“The student,” U-M President (1929-1951) Alexander Grant Ruthven wrote in his Michigan Creed, “should be trained as an Alumnus from matriculation; (s)he enrolls in the University for life and for better or worse (s)he will always remain an integral part of the institution.” President Ruthven’s commitment to this life-long relationship between graduate and university is our on-going commitment to you.

So, please, stay in touch. And “Go Blue!”
