Past Job Market Placements

The Department of Economics at the University of Michigan places its PhD students successfully. Many of our students are placed directly into tenure-track positions in academic institutions, others get jobs in excellent non-academic institutions like the Federal Reserve System, the IMF, the Treasury, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, etc. Still others get attractive post-doc positions and later move on to a tenure track position. We routinely place students in the top-20 academic economics departments and it is not unusual for us to place students inside the top-10.

PhD students are assisted in the job placement by both their primary thesis advisors and the placement director. The department assists students to prepare and distribute job market materials to potential employers. The current placement director is Dmitriy Stolyarov. Our placement coordinator is Julie Heintz.

Below we provide summaries of our PhD placements for the past several years.
