Emma Riley is a development economist. She studies digital financial services, women's empowerment and anti-poverty programs in sub-Saharan Africa. She primarily utilises large-scale field experiments to examine questions such as how can we improve the profitability of women's micro-enterprises, what is an effective way to alleviate rural poverty and do role models empower women. She received her DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford in 2019, her MPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford in 2015 and her BA in Economics from the University of Cambridge in 2010.
