PhD Students Christoph Boehm and Nitya Pandalai-Nayar Win WTO Essay Award for Young Economists

PhD Candidates Christoph Boehm and Nitya Pandalai Nayar along with U-M alum, Aaron Flaaen (not pictured), won the 2015 Essay Award for Young Economists by the World Trade Organization. Their joint paper "Input Linkages and the Transmission of Shocks: - Firm Level Evidence from the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake" was chosen by the Selection panel in Paris as the top essay of those submitted.
Boehm and Pandali-Nayar are PhD candidates in their final stages of their program, and Aaron Flaaen graduated in April 2015 with a PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan and is now working at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Professor Andrei Levchenko has been working with Boehm, Flaaen, and Pandalai Nayar on this project.
The joint paper has been submitted at a number of other conferences and departments, including the NBER Summer Institute, the Fourteenth Jacques Polak Annual Research Conference at the IMF, Barcelona GSE Summer Forum, the SED Annual Meetings in Warsaw, Stanford and Boston University.
