Professor Andrei A. Levchenko was one of seven individuals to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel at the Dies academicus. Professor Levchenko received the honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Business and Economics. The award is given in recognition of his research on the importance of business networks in international trade and the role of very large companies in a national economy. The prize also honors his contributions to the interplay between globalization, structural change and international business cycles. Dies academicus is an annual celebration commemorating the opening of the University of Basel in which the faculties are awarded honorary doctorate degrees to deserving individuals from academia and society. Additionally, early career researchers are honored for their achievements through awards sponsored by companies, foundations or associations.
