With more than 85 majors available through the college of LSA and unlimited career options, discerning which career path to pursue is a milestone decision as you travel your student journey. The great news? Regardless of your area of study, employers across various industries love the liberal arts and sciences, and are increasingly eager to hire graduates with an LSA degree.
Employers Value a Broad, Versatile Skillset
A report from the Harvard Business Review based on data from the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) reveals that employers value a broad education that imparts cross-cutting skills, and an education that bolsters these skills is the best preparation for long-term career success.
Skills like oral and written communication, critical thinking, ethical judgment, working effectively in teams, and real-world application of skills and knowledge, are emphasized in LSA curriculum, and are deemed essential in the workforce. These versatile competencies are sought after by employers, aiming to incorporate them into dynamic work environments.
An LSA Degree is a Launchpad for Success
Recent data from the college’s First Destination Survey shows that 83% of LSA graduates reported being employed or continuing education up to six months after graduating. Of those employed, 95% reported being employed on a full-time basis.
Who’s hiring liberal arts and sciences grads? The top 25 employers include Amazon, Capital One, Michigan Medicine, Bank of America, Accenture, Bloomberg, IBM, Deloitte, JP Morgan Chase, National Institute of Health, KPMG, and Trinity Health. LSA students are overwhelmingly entering careers in healthcare, finance, consulting, and technology industries.
The College of LSA strongly encourages students to have an internship experience, guaranteeing hands-on learning and working-world application of knowledge. The Harvard Business Review reports that 93% of executives and 94% of hiring managers stated that they would be more likely to hire a recent graduate who has held an internship or apprenticeship with a company or organization. Opportunity Hub data shows that 73% of LSA graduates complete at least one internship during their undergraduate years, making them competitive applicants who are more likely to be hired.
