LSA First Fellows
LSA is home to more than 3,000 first-generation college students. First-gen students are not only trailblazers in their families; they bring something to LSA that enriches everyone. Perspectives shaped by distinct lived experiences. A wide variety of backgrounds. The ambition, talent, and resilience to put those perspectives to work in classrooms, labs, and student organizations.
Yet, they arrive in Ann Arbor without a playbook—without the college-going tools that many other students inherit from family members who’ve gone before them. If they don’t know where to look or don’t feel comfortable accessing the resources intended to help them thrive, then those resources aren’t doing the intended good.
With LSA First Fellows, the newest program in LSA’s admissions-to-graduation commitment to student success, we’re providing resources to ensure no first-gen student who earned their place here will have to go it alone: People who can support them and show them the tools to build their success. Academic support. Eye-opening experiences inside and outside their classrooms. Funding for a life-changing summer opportunity.
