Postdoctoral Assistant Professor Naghmeh Akhavan has been recognized with an AWM Honors 2026 Dissertation Prize for her 2025 dissertation, "Mathematical Modeling of Border Cell Cluster Migration in Drosophila Melanogaster." She completed her dissertation under the direction of Bradford W. Peercy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Naghmeh joined the department in Fall 2025 and is currently being mentored by Victoria Booth.
