Professor Andrei A. Levchenko, Barthélémy Bonadio (PhD'21), Nitya Pandalai-Nayar (PhD '16), and Zhen Huo have been awarded the 2021-2022 Bhagwati Award for International Trade for their paper “Global supply chains in the pandemic.” The Bhagwati Award is bestowed to the best paper published in the Journal of International Economics over the past two years, with a one year lag for publication. The award is in honor of Jagdish Bhagwati, Founding Editor of Journal of International Economics. More information on the award can be found here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/journal-of-international-economics/about/bhagwati-award

The paper looks at how global supply chains influenced the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and finds that "renationalizing" supply chains does not necessarily make countries more resilient to pandemic-induced contractions in labor supply.
