The Howard L. Roth Memorial fund provides a fellowship for attendance for an Economics PhD student. Howard L. Roth was an Economics PhD program alum, receiving his PhD in 1982.
2026 Recipient
Madeleine Ray is a first year economics PhD student at the University of Michigan. She received her B.S. from Tulane University in Economics where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded the J. Ernest Tanner Award for Excellence in Economics. After graduating from Tulane in 2024, Madeleine worked at the Federal Reserve Board for two years on the Trade and Quantitative Studies team in the Division of International Finance. Her research and policy work focused on interpreting the impact of recent changes in U.S. trade policy. Madeleine’s research interests lie predominantly in macroeconomics and international economics.
