Become a Tutor

The Science Learning Center's mission is to create inclusive opportunities and spaces for students to collaborate, learn, and thrive in the natural sciences.

SLC Peer Tutors support undergraduate students in natural science courses by creating inclusive, welcoming learning spaces and helping students develop confidence, effective study strategies, and independence as learners. Rather than re-teaching course material, tutors guide students through questions, practice problems, and learning strategies that empower them to take ownership of their academic success.

Tutors work with students who bring a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and levels of subject understanding into tutoring sessions, and they are expected to meet students where they are and adapt their approach accordingly. Tutors may work with students in-person and online in appointment-based or drop-in formats. All tutors are expected to engage in required training, collaborate with peers and staff, and approach tutoring as both a professional responsibility and a learning opportunity.

This role is ideal for students who enjoy helping others learn, communicating complex ideas, and growing their own interpersonal, leadership, and subject-area skills.

I want to apply. Now what?

The primary hiring period for Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026 has concluded. The application for Winter 2027 is expected to open in mid October.

The SLC receives a large quantity of applications, so we always expect the process to be extremely competitive. Applicants will be contacted only if we have available positions for the courses they list AND they are selected for an interview.

Please note that we do not maintain applications from term to term, so anyone who has previously applied for a position and was not offered an interview will need to reapply during future application cycles to be considered.
