Alba Time-Resolved Confocal FLIM Microscope

The Alba 5 (ISS, Inc) is a point-scanning confocal with time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) for fluorescent lifetime measuremnt.  Fluorescent lifetime provides an extra orthogonal measurand, in addition to fluorescence color and intensity.  This enables fluorescent lifetime imaging (FLIM) as well as time-resolved (tr) modalities such as tr-FRET, lifetime FCS, and tr-fluorescence anisotropy.

In addition to fluorescent and FLIM imaging, the instrument is designed for fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy, allowing quantification of diverse quantities such as concentration, particle size, diffusion rates, and binding kinetics with minimal sample prep even in complex fluids or live cells.

Example Applications

  • Time-resolved FRET (better quantification than ratiometric or sensitized emission FRET)
  • Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM)
  • Concentration/diffusion/binding kinetics via fluctuation spectroscopy

Key Features

  • APD and PMT detectors provide single-photon sensitivity for fast single fluorescent molecule detection
  • 8 ps fluorescence lifetime resolution
  • Super-continuum pulsed white light laser source
