The Summer REU Program in Biophysics provides selected non-University of Michigan undergraduate students** from around the United States an opportunity to conduct ten weeks of summer research with some of the country's leading biophysicists in a range of biophysical fields. The program is conducted in concert with the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates Program and is supported by funds from the National Science Foundation.
**Please note: unfortunately our funding does not allow us to support non-US citizens or students from the University of Michigan. Permanent residents can be granted support with the proper documentation.
REU projects are available in many different biophysical areas. Please click here and here for lists of specific faculty interests. You may assume that every faculty member is interested in hosting an REU student. REU research areas in Biophysics at Michigan include:
- Structural Biology
- Complex Biosystems
- Computational/Modeling
- Enzymology
- Membrane Biophysics
- Neurobiophysics
- Single Molecule Microscopy
- Spectroscopy
Students who are selected to participate in the Biophysics REU program will receive:
- A stipend of $6,000
- Travel reimbursement up to $500 for travel to and from Ann Arbor
- Housing on campus
- Access to the UM library system
- Access to world-class research facilities
Students should ensure that they are covered by an appropriate health insurance policy in order to participate in a summer research program.
