Career & Professional Development

Most of our students have gone on to take postdoctoral positions in first-rate laboratories at Stanford, Caltech, Harvard, the University of Illinois, the Weizmann Institute, Northwestern, and UC Davis. Others have sought experience in industrial labortatories such as Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company.

Following postdoctoral training, some our students have been very successful in securing faculty positions at outstanding institutions such as Yale, Cornell, MIT, the University of Michigan, the University of North Carolina, Swathmore College, and Brandeis. Some have opted for industrial positions in companies ranging from large pharmaceutical companies to biotechnology start-ups.

The employment landscape is ever-changing. More and more, students are seeking employment in non-academic settings. Rackham supports the Professional Development of graduate students and offers many workshops and networking events.

The Med School's Office of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies created a Career & Professional Development team to help meet the specific needs of biomedical research PhD students. These resources are available to all Biophysics graduate students, whether admitted through PIBS or not.
