Biophysics is a far-reaching discipline, and students in the Biophysics program come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including: Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering and Biology.

Application Requirements

Applications to the Biophysics Program are submitted online through the Rackham Graduate School.

Applications must include a completed Online Application Form and the following:

August 30, 2024 Biophysics Preview Application Deadline. More Information. Apply here.
August 30, 2024 Initial Biophysics Preview status notification.
November 7-8, 2024 Graduate Preview Weekend. More Information.
December 6, 2024 Ph.D. Program Application Deadline.
Late Dec / Early Jan Admissions offers sent out (Rolling Basis).
February 20-22, 2025 In-Person Recruiting Weekend (for students who recieve admissions offer).
March 14, 2025 Virtual Recruiting (for students who recieve admissions offer).
April 15, 2025 Offer response due.

GRE general test scores are no longer included in the admissions process.

The application fee is waived for U.S. citizens and permanent residents only.

The academic statement of purpose, the personal statement, and a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume work together to give a fuller picture of your interests, motivations, and experiences. These three documents must be uploaded to the ApplyWeb online application.

Advice, Resources, and Next Steps

All aspects of the application are reviewed carefully by the Biophysics Admissions Committee.

Students who receive an offer of admission will be invited to an in-person Recruiting Weekend in Ann Arbor on February 20-22, 2025 (International students and those who cannot make the in-person event are invited to visit us virtually on March 14, 2025).

Biophysics Graduate Preview Program

Biophysics Preview is a Fall event for prospective graduate students. We invite approximately six highly qualified prospective graduate students for an all-expense-paid trip to experience the Biophysics graduate program at the University of Michigan.
