About
I’m a PhD student and Graduate Student Instructor at the University of Michigan’s Romance Languages and Literatures Department.
My research focuses on illness and disability in Latin American literature and culture. My research examines the discourse of Latin American writers from the 19th century onwards, as well as the activism and community building present in online support groups for chronic illness, that challenges the authority of the medical establishment regarding patients' bodies, and how unattainable, capitalistic ideals of health —as well as profit-driven health practices and a dismissal of clinical evidence and the patient's lived experience— may overcome a genuine wellness-focused approach in their treatment.
