About
Mario Sanchez Gumiel earned a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures (Spanish) from the University of Michigan and previously earned two Masters from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His work intersects utopian studies, science fiction and posthumanism with focus on turn-of-the-20th_century Spain. Sanchez Gumiel’s current monograph, The Forms of Things Un-Known is currently under contract, and his previous volume De jorobados, fantasmas, asesinos y otros monstruos is currently under review. His scholarly production can be found in Penumbra, FILMHISTORIA Online, and Ottawa Hispanic Studies. Sanchez Gumiel is currently working on two projects. In one, he explores Spanish science fiction during Francisco Franco’s dictatorship (1939-75) with special focus on comics. The other examines horror in the cinema of Spain of the 1950s, continuing the topic initiated in De jorobados…, where he analyzed horror in the cinema of Spain of the 1940s. He currently works as postdoctoral fellow/lecturer.
