Not sure if an international experience is right for you?
There are only two pre-requisites to study abroad: having an open mind and being excited to experience new challenges. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you’re studying, an international experience is available to you during your time at Michigan.

The Application Process
Want to learn more about international opportunities around the world, scholarships and other financial aid resources, the CGIS application process, and more? If so, our First Steps with CGIS video is perfect for you! If you would like to have a Peer Advisor present First Steps with CGIS to you, please check their drop in availability or send us an email at CGIS@umich.edu.
Attending a First Step session is not a required component of the CGIS application process.

Search, save, and apply for international programs on M-Compass: Each program on our page links to a corresponding M-Compass brochure, where you can find program-specific details about housing, academics, cost, available financial aid & scholarships, deadlines, and more.
Please note: All types of international opportunities are available through M-Compass. CGIS programs have our acronym "CGIS" in the program title.
Tip: We suggest considering your personal, academic, and professional goals and let those guide you in your search. Whether you hope to improve language skills, meet academic requirements, develop professional skills, or just step outside your comfort zone, each CGIS global opportunity offers unique benefits. Identifying objectives and expectations before beginning the search for a study abroad program or international internship will help you select the most suitable intercultural experiences.
After exploring the variety of CGIS international opportunities available, you are welcome to meet with our team for help assessing your goals, identifying the right programs/internships for you, and assistance through the application process. Use the CGIS Advising button below to discover what questions to ask and who to meet with.
After meeting with a CGIS advisor, you should also discuss with your academic advisors how study abroad courses and/or international internship seminars can help fulfill degree requirements.
