Sharing Your Experience

Sharing your study abroad experiences is a great way to remember your time overseas, as well as inspire others to take part in an international experience. We encourage you to join our CGIS Ambassador program and stay engaged with international education. Here's how:

Study Abroad Stories, Photos, and Videos: CGIS welcomes student submissions of stories, photos, and videos. Nearly every photo used in CGIS promotional materials was taken by a U-M student who has returned from a study abroad experience. Student contributions give our materials a vibrancy and authenticity that helps convey your incredible personal and academic journeys. Please review Capturing/Sharing Your Experience & Ethical Photography for guidance on the type of content we encourage.

Share photos: Use our photo form to submit photos (you can upload 10 at a time, and submit as many times as you like!). If you experience any difficulties, please email Corrin Leverton at corrinl@umich.edu.

Write a blog post: Help us provide authentic insight for prospective study abroad students by sharing your voice via the CGIS Blog! Use our blog post form to submit your content for review. Please check our CGIS Blog Guide for more information.

CGIS Photo Contest: Each year, CGIS holds a contest in which students who participated in CGIS programs can submit photos and win prizes. Every fall, CGIS sends an submission request to all all students who participated in a CGIS study abroad program within the last year.

Volunteer at CGIS events: Throughout the year CGIS hosts a number of study abroad promotional events, including but not limited to the Study Abroad Fair in October, Program-Specific Pre-Departure Orientations, and others. If you would like to help out at a CGIS event, please contact your advisor or the CGIS office (cgis@umich.edu).

CGIS E-Advisor: What do you wish you had known before departing on your study abroad experience? Help others and share that advice as a CGIS E-Advisor! E-Advisors are students who have participated in CGIS programs and are available to answer questions and share their experiences.

CGIS sends annual email invitations to become an E-Advisor to all students who participated in a CGIS study abroad program within the last year. If you went abroad over a year ago and are interested in being an E-Advisor, please contact CGIS at cgis@umich.edu.

CGIS Peer Advisor: Every year CGIS hires a small group of past study abroad students to work in the CGIS office. Please check the CGIS Employment Opportunities page for openings and more information.

Schedule a Meeting with Your CGIS Advisor: Finally, we would love to talk to you about your experience! You can schedule an appointment with your advisor after your return let us know how it went!
