Let's get to know Noah...
What inspired you to major in Sociology?
I took a couple Sociology classes and found that I thoroughly enjoyed the approach that the discipline takes to interpreting events in the world. While I love Psychology, looking at the world through the social lense makes the most sense to me and reflects my experiences.
What classes have you most enjoyed? Why?
One of my favorite classes has to be Sociology 354: Law and Society. It brought in the sociological approach to an area with which I am somewhat familiar. I also enjoyed Sociology 465: Sociological Analysis of Deviance. This was my first upper-level Sociology class, and it really opened my eyes to a different way of looking at the world.
What advice would you give to students considering majoring Sociology at UM?
Go meet your professors! Talking with them outside of the context of the classroom will give you a better feel on if you want to major in Sociology. It will also help you get to know the department a lot better. There is a lot of awesome work going on that you just may not know about.
Have you participated in an internship or research experience?
Yes! I've been part of the "University Responses to Sexual Assault on Campus" research team for four semesters now. I've met some incredible people through this experience, and it has definitely been one of the most interesting things I have done at the University of Michigan.
What do you hope to do after graduating from Michigan?
I hope to eventually go on to pursue graduate studies, though, in what field I am not yet positive. Still deciding between a few options. I know that I love to learn and I love to read. Directly following graduation, I hope to find a job in Washington, D.C., where I also had an internship last summer.
Where is the best place in Ann Arbor to get late-night study food?
This is tricky. The best late night food in Ann Arbor has to be Pizza House, but I would not recommend eating that when one needs to study. I'm a big fan of going home and making a quick snack. Provides a great study break and doesn't make me as tired as eating several pieces of cheesy bread.
