Major/Minor: Double major in Sociology and Neuroscience

 

What inspired you to major in Sociology?

I was inspired to major in Sociology after taking a first year seminar called Sociology of Families. I loved the open discussion format of class and I found the content intriguing, this gave way in my decision to major in Sociology.

 

What classes have you most enjoyed?

The classes I have enjoyed the most in the department include Sociology of Families (SOC 105), SOC 494 (the research I am apart of), and Sociology of Drugs and Society (SOC 495)

 

How has Sociology helped you to understand the pandemics the U.S. is currently facing: COVID-19 and/or systemic racism?

Sociology has provided me a way to immerse myself in today's prevalent topics by offering classes on those issues which has led to a deeper understanding of the privileges I have and that my family has and how those privileges impact my life in the present day.

 

Have you participated in undergraduate research, fieldwork, or an internship experience?

I am a research assistant in Corey Moss-Pech's lab which looks at the intersection of undergraduate education and workplace outcomes and how gender inequality plays a role in those outcomes.

 

Do you have advice for prospective Soc majors in this moment?

I would tell prospective Soc majors to take classes they are actually interested in, Sociology is a major that grants a ton of freedom in regards to choosing classes and they should take advantage of that.
