Travel Grants

Biophysics Graduate Student Travel Grants are intended to assist in providing opportunities for our PhD students to participate in professional connections with others in their academic field. These awards are intended to supplement Rackham Conference Travel Grant.

Award Description

Students should review the Biophysics Graduate Student Conference Travel Grant Guidelines before applying.

Travel grant policies include:

  • Students may apply for one Biophysics travel grant per fiscal year. The fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30.
  • The student’s research mentor is expected to cover any remaining costs.
  • Funds are distributed as reimbursement after the trip is completed.
  • Itemized receipts are required for reimbursement.
  • Funds may be used for:
    • Travel
    • Lodging
    • Conference registration
    • Printing costs
  • Funds may not be used for:
    • Meals
    • Incidentals

Eligibility

Students are eligible to apply for a Biophysics travel grant if they meet all of the following requirements:

  • They are a Biophysics PhD student in good academic standing.
  • They have been accepted to present a poster or paper at a conference.
  • They will present dissertation-related research at the meeting.
  • They have applied for a Rackham Conference Travel Grant or have exhausted Rackham travel funds for the year in which the meeting will be held.

Confirmation of conference acceptance is not required at the time of application.

Preference will be given to students who have not received Biophysics travel funding in the past two academic years.

Deadlines

Applications are reviewed twice each year.

Application deadlines are:

  • October 15
  • March 15

Applications must be submitted at least three to four weeks before the first day of planned travel.

Applications will not be considered for retroactive funding.
