Travel Grants

Biophysics Graduate Student Travel Grants are intended to assist in providing opportunities for our PhD students to participate in professional connections with others in their academic field. These awards are intended to supplement Rackham Conference Travel Grant.

Award Description

  • A student can only apply for one travel grant per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30)
  • The student's research mentor is expected to cover the remainder of the costs.
  • Funds will be distributed on a reimbursable basis after the trip is completed (itemized receipts required).
  • Funds can be used to support travel, lodging, registration or printing costs (not meals or incidentals).

See the Biophysics Graduate Student Conference Travel Grant Guidelines for more information.

Eligibility

Students are eligible to apply for a Biophysics travel grant if they:

  • Are a Biophysics Ph.D. student in good academic standing.
  • Have been accepted to present a poster or paper at a conference.
  • Will present dissertation-related research at the meeting (but confirmation of acceptance is not required at the time of the application.)
  • Have applied for a Rackham Conference Travel Grant or exhausted Rackham funds for the year the meeting will be held.

Preference will be given to students who have not obtained biophysics travel funding in the past 2 academic years.

Deadline

Applications are considered twice annually with deadlines of October 15 and March 15, and must be received no less than 3-4 weeks before the first day of planned travel. Applications will not be considered for retroactive funding.
