About
My principal interests revolve around the dramatic cultural shifts that are expressed in various literary works and cultural productions of late medieval and 16th century Spain. To that end, my research centres on the decline of feudalism in Castilian and Catalan speaking territories of Spain in the late medieval period in light of increased Spanish dominance in overseas European territories, as well as the integral rôle of class conflicts and external cultural influences in the formation of a nation state. My research draws upon theories of class struggle, the transformative influence of the mercantile economics on state power dynamics and classical influences on early modern statecraft.
