About
I am an Ecuadorian writer, editor, translator, researcher, and Spanish tutor. I am the author of six books of poetry, which have earned national and international recognition, and my work appears in numerous poetry anthologies. I am a founding member of the Ecuadorian literary magazines Cráneo de Pangea and Mura and I have collaborated with other literary publications in Latin America, the United States and the United Kingdom. I have worked as a freelance copy editor at Ecuadorian publishers such as La Caída, El Conejo and the PUCE Publications Center, and I am a freelance editor, proofreader and translator at Antisana Translations & Editing. I have given poetry workshops and have represented Ecuador in festivals and book fairs throughout Latin America.
As a scholar, my research has focused on twentieth century Latin American and Spanish poetry, humor and irony, pop culture, migration, violence, urban and landscape studies, the poetics of space, corporeal poetics, and translation; my tangential interests include Andean and tropical gothic fiction, and Latin American sci-fi, avant-garde poetics and movements, and noir.
My bachelor’s thesis examined the poetry of Chilean Nicanor Parra and its relationship with humor, irony, and jokes, while my master’s thesis presented a comparative analysis of the poetics of the Mexican Ricardo Castillo and the Ecuadorian Ramiro Oviedo in regards to violence in urban spaces and how this affects individuals within those spaces, transversed by corporeal studies, irony, and migratory processes. Aside from academic articles published in indexed journals in Ecuador, Spain and the USA, I’ve presented papers at various congresses in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and the USA.
