Congratulations to: Dr. Colin Gunckel and Dr. Candace Moore, co-directors of a project: Cultivating Diversity in the Department of Film, Television, and Media Curriculum
This two-year project is charged with initiating dialogue in FTVM about diversity in its undergraduate curriculum. It is based on the assertion that film, television and new media not only help us understand contemporary conceptions of race and ethnicity, but are critical to how most of us understand ourselves, as well as relations to others and to social and political issues. Supported by the UM Center for Research and Learning and Teaching through the Faculty Development Fund, the project will coordinate conversations across disciplines about pedagogy, course design and classroom strategies and will develop two new courses to examine issues of diversity in media through theoretical and historical frameworks. These courses, that will be developed and first taught by Professors Moore and Gunckel, will also work to produce a web resource called the Diversity in Media Archive. That resource will be built and maintained collaboratively by undergraduate students and faculty in the Department of Film, Television, and Media.
