Mitchell Endowment

A $5 million endowment from the Patricia W. Mitchell Trusts, honoring the legacy of Columbia Pictures Television Founder John H. Mitchell, is currently supporting students, faculty and programming at the Department of Film, Television, and Media. The Mitchell Trusts enables FTVM to continue developing a diverse community of future media professionals who are focused on ethical leadership. The endowment provides funding for students and faculty; facilitates community outreach; strengthens the department’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion; deepens direct connections between students and entertainment industry professionals; and provides a strong ethical foundation to better prepare current and future generations of students to take on leadership roles in the industry.

In total, the gift enabled FTVM to create six new programs, including...

The John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Scholarship Fund: Undergraduate scholarship for students pursuing a major in film, television, and media.

The John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Internship Fund: Support for undergraduate students who secure internships.

The John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Internship Program Fund: Programmatic support.

John H. Mitchell Visiting Professorship in Media Entertainment: Bringing a highly experienced industry professional or scholar whose work demonstrates a commitment to developing, promoting or researching social change initiatives to campus.

John H. Mitchell Critical Conversations Fund: A signature speaker series addressing topics around ethics in the entertainment and media industry with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.

John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Family Community Outreach Fund: Support for faculty outreach efforts designed to engage and expose students from socioeconomically challenged high schools or community colleges to opportunities in film and television.
