Curious about the RC student experience?
Interested in finding out a bit more about what life is like as a Residential College student? Find out more from the experiences of our RC Admissions Assistants and our RC Ambassadors! RC Admissions Assistants (RC AAs) are an essential part of the RC Admissions Team and may be in touch with you while you explore the RC's options. RC Ambassadors and RC AAs will be on hand during RC Campus Days to give their unique perspectives as current RC-ers.
If you are interested in reaching out to an RC Admissions Assistant and/or an RC Ambassador with questions, reach out to rcadmissions@umich.edu.
Hi Friends! I’m Ayo Fadase. I'm from Nigeria by way of Texas. I'm a Junior in the Residential College, majoring in Economics and International Studies. I lived in East Quad as a freshman, I met all my close friends now in the dorm and I loved it!
This is my third year in the Admissions office and my first year as a Senior Admissions Assistant! I love getting involved in any way I can and helping plan and organize events. My RC language was French in my first semester, which I enjoyed, but I tested out of my native language.
I had “Living and Telling” as my First year writing seminar which was amazing I would highly recommend :) I've also recently joined the Film and Food Forums in the RC and I am so excited! Outside of the RC and Academics, I am on the Board of the African Student Association (ASA), a Pre-Professional organization and a Campus Day tour guide. I hope to meet y'all and tell you all about why I not only love the University of Michigan but also the RC!
Hello! My name is Awmeo Azad and I am a senior transfer student majoring in International Studies, Comparative Culture and Identity. In addition to working with admissions, I am also a a member of the RC Players where I’ve acted in productions of Bakkhai and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. My favorite RC class was Book and the Body, which focused on the physical evolution of books. I learned how to cut quills, set lead type, make wax tablets, and brew ink from oak galls!
Outside of the RC, I write book reviews for the Arts Section of the Michigan Daily and am a proud ICC member. I am one of my co-ops maintenance managers and I cook dinners on Wednesday for 25 people! In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry and tabletop games. Looking forward to meeting you!
Hello and welcome! I’m Qiying Feng (she/her). I’m from China, by way of Southern California! I am a junior in the RC, triple majoring in sociology, psychology, and creative writing. It’s my third year as an RC Admissions Assistant, and it has truly been an enriching experience!
When I was a First Year, I also took "Living to Tell" (Yes, Ayo is my classmate), and this course inspired me to major in creative writing, even though I had never written a single creative piece in high school. The RC has some of the most supportive faculty and staff on campus. I highly recommend every class offered by Laura Kasischke and Sarah Messer—they are a MUST if you’re considering poetry!
In my free time, I enjoy digital drawing and watching anime. Outside of the RC, I’m the president of CPSA, co-president of Cinnamon Cinema, and a writer for RC Review. By the way, I’ve lived in East Quad for three years in a row, so if you have any dorm-related questions, I’ll do my best to answer them for you!
I can’t wait to meet you all—welcome to the RC!
Hi everyone, I’m Jack Thompson (he/him). I’m a senior from Toledo, Ohio majoring in Computer Science. I spent my first two years of college living in East Quad and have been working as an Admissions Assistant for the RC since my first year. Japanese was my RC language class, and I loved it so much that I studied abroad for a whole calendar year in Tokyo this past year!
In terms of clubs, I’m a member of the Blue Bop Jazz Orchestra, the Alpha Theta Delta professional design fraternity, and I joined Michigan Club Swim this year after joining the swim team during my year abroad. I’m also an Instructional Aide (IA) for the RC Intensive Japanese class! If you have any questions about studying abroad as an RC student or the Residential College in general, feel free to ask!
Hey y’all! I’m Jaidyn Opuni, and I’m from Marion, Ohio. I’m currently a freshman in the Residential College. Living in East Quad has been amazing; I love the close-knit community and I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have in your transition to UMich!
I plan on double majoring in Organizational Studies through LSA and in Community and Global Public Health through SPH on the pre-med track. Additionally, I am looking minor in Disability Studies. I’m currently taking ASL in the RC, working as a research intern in Detroit through UROP, am a member of the Abeng Multicultural Council here in EQ, and of course, work as an Admissions Assistant in the office! If you’re curious about any of these, don’t hesitate to ask!
I can absolutely answer any questions you may have with the first-year transition, as well as setting yourself up for success on our campus. So many opportunities await you at Umich and the RC is a great place to start! :) Go Blue!
Hola, amigos! My name is Fabiola Ferrer and I am from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I'm a Sophmore in the Residential College, majoring in International Studies with a focus in Global Health and the Environment. I lived in East Quad as a freshman, I met all my close friends, met amazing professors, and gained one of a kind opportunities!
This is my first year in the Admissions Office! I love getting involved in any way I can with the RC and the University of Michigan. Outside of the RC and Academics, I am part of the Puerto Rico Student Association and of The Women’s Network. I hope to meet y'all and tell you all about why I not only love the University of Michigan but also the RC!
Hello everyone!! My name is Fatima Farrukh and I’m from Queens, New York City. I’m a Sophomore in Residential College, pursuing a dual degree through Taubman College, and plan on doing the Bachelors of General Studies in Urban Studies & Real Estate. I tested out of the LSA language requirement and am currently taking URdu to fulfill my RC language requirement. I have been a part of the RC Admissions Office for two years now, and am an RC RA this year!
Outside of the RC, I am a lab manager for a lab in Ross called ODESI, and am currently part of the UROP Research Scholars Program. I really enjoy painting and creating art. I am also obsessed with maps, cranes and everything construction related, so if you’d ever like to have an architecture loaded conversation about beams or bridges etc, I’d love to chat about it.
I welcome you all to the RC community and look forward to connecting with everyone!
