As all RC students are also LSA students, RC students fulfill both requirements for RC and LSA. In fact, most RC requirements overlap with LSA requirements, meaning you can complete two requirements with one course!

About one third of the average RC student's courses are typically held within the RC. This number can be higher for students enrolling in an RC major or minor. Check out our latest course offerings. 

Yes, with a few exceptions. The only RC courses that aren’t graded are the Intensive I & II immersion language classes. In addition to grades, RC students will receive written evaluations on their transcript for each RC course they complete.

 Of course - some students continue learning languages in which they have experience, while some start as true beginners. No experience is required to enroll in the immersion courses.

The average class size for the RC is 9-20 students and is typically held in East Quad, the same building where RC students live for their first two years on campus.

With small classes, an emphasis on writing and discussion, and professors’ offices located in East Quad, it is not unusual for RC students to develop a strong rapport with their professors.

RC-ers may choose from any major and/or minor offered through LSA and/or the RC. For instance, in the RC class of 2017 there were over 30 different majors represented.

The RC has several student-led discussion groups called “Forums” that can be enrolled in for credit. Titles and topics range from Food Forum to Feminist Forum, from LGBTQA Forum, to Creative Writing Forum. There is also a theater troupe (the RC Players), the RC Student Union, and the RC Review literary magazine.

The RC is home to the Keene Theater, a ceramics studio, a printmaking studio, a photography darkroom, a sculpture studio, the RC Art Gallery, RC Academic Advising, the Benzinger Library, several study lounges, music practice rooms, a dance studio, the Blue Cafe, and the East Quad Dining Hall.

Yes, RC students make up about half of East Quad’s residential space, while the remaining students come from all schools across campus.

For Fall 2024, Housing has determined that all first-year students are able to select their roommates/rooms in their assigned location, which means that RC students are able to select their rooms and roommates in East Quad!

Yes! RC students can join a fraternity or a sorority. However, students who participate in a fraternity or sorority must still complete the RC’s first-year live-in requirement.
