Lecturer and Head, Japanese Program
About
Tomoko Okuno, Ph.D., is a Lecturer IV and the Program Head of the RC Japanese Program. She teaches First-, Second-, and Third-Year Intensive Japanese and coordinates a video conference that connects her Japanese students with students in Japan learning English.
Her research interests include second language (L2) acquisition, L2 phonology, and foreign language pedagogy. She has presented papers on corrective feedback in L2 writing, the acquisition of L2 durational contrasts, and factors affecting the acquisition of vowel duration in L2 Japanese. Her work also explores learners’ oral skills and the socio-affective profiles of students following short-term study abroad. Currently, she is working on projects that measure and assess oral fluency and pronunciation, as well as pre-writing strategies to enhance students’ writing.
