After graduating, Natalie Lomske (Class of 2016) carried a piece of the RC and her time at the FTVM with her. She continued to pursue roles in writing, film, and never stopped chasing her dreams.
This year, she’s set on directing Pacific Pilgrimage with screenwriter and UMich alum Carly Keyes. Pacific Pilgrimage will be based on the novel Sparrow Migrations by Michigan author Cari Noga, making this project an all-female team. Natalie is currently searching for funding for production and post-production.
Pacific Pilgrimage follows the tale of twelve-year-old Robby, who lives with autism, and shares his love for birds as a way to connect with other people and the world. This film is a story of resilience, love and loss, and how humans can heal from the natural world.
Natalie spoke of her own experience scouting for a filming location in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, and marveling at its natural beauty.
“I could really envision Robby exploring the park and connecting with other bird enthusiasts. The shimmering water, soft sandy beaches, and calming bird calls transported me into Robby’s world and helped me understand why he finds serenity and belonging in nature, and I hope to bring that experience to the screen through this film”.
This project hits particularly close for Natalie, who is also a person living with a disability. “I hope to showcase the gorgeous landscapes and unique wildlife California has to offer, along with increasing disability representation on screen”.
With plans to move into pre-production around February and March 2026, the crew is looking for funding to help bring their idea to life. Donors will receive gifts of gratitude from Natalie and her team. You can help support Natalie and her cause!
