Support the RC Community Where You Live
In East Quad, the students on your hall are also the students in your RC classes. That's what makes being an RC RA different from an RA job anywhere else on campus: you're not staffing a building, you're a trusted person in a community you already live in. Ten RC RAs support the day-to-day of the RC, working with both Michigan Housing and RC Student Affairs.
What You'll Do
Everything a traditional East Quad RA does, plus the RC layer:
Lead RC Welcome Week activities: board game night, karaoke night, walking your hall to Shakespeare in the Arb and to RC Convocation
Plan community building activities with the RC RA team at short biweekly meetings
Promote anchor RC events in your hall: Festiforum, Course Mart, Parent/Family Weekend
Serve as the link between your residents, RC faculty and staff, and East Quad ResEd
The RC side takes about 3 hours a week, roughly 23 hours a week combined with traditional RA responsibilities. Your Hall Director will work with you on balancing the role with everything else.
Why Do It?
It's a real job with real responsibility, the kind that carries weight with employers. You'll work closely with professional staff who get to know you well, and you'll shape the same community that shaped your own first year.
Compensation
Room and board. The meal plan is meant to be used, ideally eating with your residents. If you receive financial aid, check with the Office of Financial Aid (financial.aid@umich.edu) on how compensation affects your package.
Who Can Apply?
Current RC students who are active in the RC: enrolled in RC courses and involved in student life. You'll also need to meet the traditional RA eligibility requirements, including being able to commit more than 20 hours a week. Questions? Email kaurt@umich.edu.
