The Residential College is a liberal arts program inside the College of LSA, built around one idea: that the most interesting learning happens when you combine disciplines rather than stay inside one.
Classes are small, faculty know you by name, and you are encouraged to explore widely and shape a path that is your own.
Across the RC curriculum, students build skills in critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving while exploring ideas and building the foundation for lifelong learning.
Language study, writing, the arts, and interdisciplinary coursework offer different ways to engage with your education and connect what you learn in the classroom to the questions, communities, and experiences that matter to you.
Classes in the RC
The RC offers more than 80 courses each semester, open to both RC and LSA students. Courses are typically small and discussion-based, with opportunities to work closely with faculty and classmates while exploring subjects from more than one perspective.
You might study Excellence, Equity, and the Politics of Education, study The Middle Ages and the Modern World, develop your creative practice through Film Photography, or try something new in Modern Theatre. Whether you take one RC class or many, RC courses give you room to follow your interests, try something new, and build skills that carry across your education.

Graduate with the RC
Students who complete the Residential College Living-Learning Program Requirements graduate with a degree from the LSA Residential College. It carries the same weight as an LSA degree, while also recognizing that you completed the RC’s more rigorous and engaging liberal arts experience.
So, what can you do with it? Anything you can do with an LSA degree! All LSA majors, minors, and tracks of study are available to RC students. Our students just begin their academic journey with a more engaging interdisciplinary education. RC academics emphasize small classes, close faculty engagement, language study, creative exploration, and the critical thinking and communication skills necessary to succeed.
