Creative Project Resources
Creative Presentations are for those students who don't fit the typical presentation styles (poster/oral). The Creative Presentation format debuted in 2023 as a way for engaging students that do not fit the traditional presentation formats. It has grown since to include students in the digital, performing, and fine arts as well as students with a creative presentation idea. These projects could include, but are not limited to, submissions from Dance, Art, Music, Creative Writing, Media and Cultural Studies, and Theatre, Film, and Digital Production. While artistic presentations are the most common uses of this format, there have been Creative Presentations of STEM projects as well. Overall, students should be able to discuss the research/inspiration behind the final product.

How does it work?
- When registering for the Symposium, students are allowed to select “creative presentation” as an option. If a research mentor supports this type of presentation or thinks this type of presentation is aligned with the project, both the student and research mentor will receive confirmation from Dr. Michelle Ferrez, Director of UROP.
- Dr. Ferrez will meet with creative presenters and mentors to discuss each presentation’s needs.
What type of resources might be needed?
- Tables, monitors, mannequins, projectors, laptops, headphones, white boards, poster boards, and easels. If you need other equipment, Dr. Ferrez will work with a presenter to help them make their presentation design happen. Resource and creative presentation needs will be finalized by Friday, April 4, 2025.
Day of Symposium (Wednesday, April 23, 2025)
- You are assigned a 50 minute block of time when you are expected to give a short talk about your project and then stand with your project: the talk is usually 5-10 minutes and the interactive time is about 35-40 minutes.
- Due to the nature of the Creative Presentation style, there is a level of flexibility in the layout of this option.
I’m not sure if what I am thinking of doing is possible, is there someone I can talk to?
- Yes! Please contact the Director of UROP, Michelle Ferrez at mdferrez@umich.edu . Dr. Ferrez will meet with creative presenters to discuss each presentation’s needs.
