UROP Student Success Grant

UROP Student Success Grant: Funding for Advanced Undergraduate Research & Mentorship

We are pleased to announce the launch of the UROP Student Success Research Grant, a new funding initiative designed to support the "continuum of research." This program specifically targets undergraduate students entering their third or fourth year of research who are continuing their work under the same research mentor.

The Goal: To transition experienced undergraduates from research assistants to Junior Research Leads, fostering long-term retention, research leadership, and professional readiness

Award Benefits

To recognize the commitment of both the student and the mentor, this award provides:

  • Student Fellowship: A stipend of $2,000 per semester to support deep focus on research. This equates to students working on average 10-12 hours per week per semester.
  • Mentor Discretionary Fund: $2,000 per year to support research supplies, software, etc.
  • Professional Development: Exclusive access to Travel Grant Funds to present your research at national conferences and/or leadership workshops.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Continuity: Students must have completed at least four semesters (or two full years) of research with their current research mentor.
  • Commitment: A joint commitment from the mentor and student to continue the partnership through the student’s graduation.
  • Leadership: A willingness from the student to take on a peer-mentorship role within the research setting, mentoring new undergraduate student researchers.

Application Requirements

Rather than a traditional project proposal, this application focuses on growth and sustainability. Interested faculty-student pairs must submit:

  1. A Joint Mentorship Transition Plan, outlining how the student’s role will evolve into an independent lead. To be completed collaboratively between student researcher and research mentor.
  2. A Brief Statement of Impact: How this funding will help the student reach their post-graduation goals. You can include the statement as part of the Mentorship Transition Plan.

Important Dates:

We recognize that the most impactful research happens when a student stays long enough to master their craft. We look forward to supporting your most dedicated student researchers as they move into this next phase of their academic careers.
