Students are each required to register for symposium by submitting their abstract through the UROP student portal. Once students have submitted their registration, it will be sent to their mentor for content and presentation approval.
UROP is committed to providing accommodations and making our events accessible. Students will be able to indicate in the registration portal whether they or their guests need such accommodations in order to assign student presentation locations that best meet the accessibility needs of our attendees.
The cost of printing a single poster through the Fishbowl printing services is covered by the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. Students will be able to upload their posters to a website for printing. If you have any symposium questions, please direct them to your UROP Peer Facilitator or urop.symposium@umich.edu.
Please visit the Poster Resources page for in depth support for creating your poster.
The maximum of two students may co-present together for a single presentation.
Projects and labs that have more than two students on a project, are not allowed to present in more than groups of two. Research Scholars may not present with first-year UROP students.
Presenting a Poster In-Person
Students present their research in front of their poster during a 50 minute long poster session.
Presenting In-Person
If your mentor has identified a different presentation format (other than a poster) that is more suited to your discipline or project, they will be able to indicate that in the registration process.
Research Scholars giving an oral presentation are required to use the microphone in their presentation room.
All presenters should refrain from wearing anything with significant scents such as perfume, cologne or lotion. Thank you for being considerate of your peer's allergies.
Symposium takes place during the Wednesday study day before exams to ensure that students do not have class conflicts on symposium day.
Students will be assigned a two-hour block of time during the symposium day, in which they are required to be in attendance. One hour will be their time to present, the other hour will be the designated time to attend the symposium as an observer of their peers' projects and complete their symposium assignment.
Students will be scheduled with other students with the same mentor and/or in the same lab.
