Fall-Winter Programs

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) offers several different programs throughout the academic year for University of Michigan-Ann Arbor undergraduate students to discover the world of research through collaborations with U-M researchers.

Traditional UROP – Overview

A program for first- and second-year undergraduate students enrolled at the Ann Arbor campus who are seeking a first time research experience. Student research assistants work alongside a faculty member, research scientist, or professional practitioner on an ongoing or new research project.

Research Scholars – Overview

Changing Gears – Overview

A program designed for U-M transfer students to foster a sense of belonging at U-M through one-on-one connections with professors, faculty researchers, transfer student peer facilitators, and graduate students (via a Graduate Mentorship Program).

Community-Engaged Research (CER) – Overview

A program with a social justice focus specifically designed for students interested in research and creative activities that benefit local communities. The CER seminar aims to help students be successful when working in partnership with communities and develop the confidence, skills, knowledge, and commitment essential for quality research and social action.

Michigan Research and Discovery Scholars (MRADS) – Overview

MRADS is a residential affiliate of the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) that offers incoming first-year students a research partnership with a faculty member in an area of their choosing, as well as a small, diverse, and supportive community to call home.
