How do I register for Oral Presentations?
- Prior to registering, students are required to meet with their research mentor to get approval for this type of presentation in order to ensure that this type presentation is aligned with the project. When registering for the Research Symposium, students should select “oral presentation” as the presentation type. After registering, the student and mentor will receive confirmation.
- We would like to make this presentation type accessible to all students, please work with the UROP senior staff to address any concerns and to ensure that the student has everything needed to conduct an oral presentation.
How do Oral Presentations work at the Symposium?
- There will be 4-5 scholars scheduled during each 50-minute presentation session. Each scholar is expected to give an 8-minute oral presentation accompanied by google slides. This will allow for 10-minutes of Q & A with all the presenters at the end of the presentations.
Day of Symposium
- Check-in: All presenters are expected to check in at the registration table when arriving at the Symposium. After checking in, head to the oral presentation room that you are scheduled for to check in with the Room Facilitator. Please arrive a few minutes before the start of the session. Doors will be closed once the session begins.
- Room Facilitator & Timekeeper: Each presentation room will have a Room Facilitator that will be responsible for introducing each scholar and facilitating Q & A.. In addition, there will be a Timekeeper for each session. The Timekeeper will hold index cards to announce when 5-minutes, 3-minutes and 1-minute are remaining.
- Layout: The presentation room will be set up lecture-style with a podium and projector. The podium will hold a laptop with your google slides uploaded and ready to go when you arrive.
How do I submit my presentation slides?
- Once the mentor approval for symposium registration is completed, each scholar will be invited to upload their mentor-approved google slide presentation to this shared google drive no later than Tuesday, April 22, 2025 by 11:59 p.m.
- You will have from Monday, April 14 - Tuesday, April 22 to make any final edits or changes within the google drive folder. All access will be removed on Tuesday, April 22 at 11:59 p.m. Edits to the presentation slides will not be allowed past this date. Please note that all finalized presentations should be mentor approved. A combined google slide show for each presentation session will be created and used the day of the symposium.
How do I create my oral presentation slides?
- Oral presentations must be created in google slides for accessibility purposes. If short videos or website URLs are a part of the presentation they must be embedded into the slide presentation.
