Wordpress is a blogging and content management platform. It supports both classic blogging, with a single stream of posts listed by date, and also classic website arrangements, with a variety of content pages linked by a stable navigation menu.
Wordpress allows your students to post journal or blog style entries. These can be public, private to the course, or private to the instructor, and can be a single stream or viewed one student at a time.
If you would like to give your students some experience in planning and building a website, especially one intended for public viewing or public scholarship, Wordpress is an easy-to-use platform.
Because of its powerful navigation options, Wordpress can make a good platform for showcasing projects, especially multimedia projects that include multiple types of content.
Academic Technology Services and Web and Application Development Services have partnered to create a WordPress Multisite environment to host course and class related websites. You can see examples and request a Wordpress site for yourself at the site below.
If you’d like to discuss how best to use Wordpress in your courses, please feel free to request a consultation with the LSA Learning and Teaching Consultants.
BlueCorps can assist students in learning how to use Wordpress for a course, and you can also schedule an in-class workshop for the purpose. You can contact BlueCorp to request a workshop here. Students can send individual requests here or drop in at the BlueCorp desk located in the MLB Media Center (room 2001).
If you or your students encounter technical issues with your Wordpress, please contact Web and Application Development Services to request assistance.
