Local and Network Printing |
LSA utilizes the U-M MPrint as the primary service to provide printing throughout the college. Printers are accessible to faculty, staff, and students who work for university units that subscribe to the service and located in departments and student computer labs across campus. The service is networked, and provides the ability for community members to print from their computer or mobile device to many printers on campus (via the Follow Me function). Costs for networked printing are covered by LSA. When adding a new print queue, you will be prompted for a one time registration of your device(s) and uniqname.
New to LSA Printing? Departmental Chief Administrators or Directors maintain MCommunity groups which permit local printer access. If you are unable to print to a specific device start with your departmental leadership to ensure you are in the right MCommunity groups.
Local (Non-Networked) Printing
While the MPrint Follow Me function allows individuals to release print jobs on networked printers securely with a swipe of an MCard, some LSA departments and individuals requested to maintain local (non-networked) printers for specific business functions. Costs for local (non-networked) printing are covered by departments. Please refer to the Local (Individual) Printer Policy for additional information.
Note: Many of these paper-based functions which required printing pre-pandemic have been replaced by online signature & routing processes to accommodate remote and hybrid work functions, and local printers may no longer be required to protect privacy and/or personal data. Departments may wish to consider whether the cost of purchasing, maintaining, or buying printing consumables is still financially appropriate.
LSA Technology Services provides 3D printing for faculty, staff & students. At this time there is no cost to use the service. We provide the printer time and consulting services if needed. We ask that the user provides the printing filament.
We are equipped with two Prusa 3D printers capable of printing objects up to 10 inches square. Our printers use 1.75mm filament with 0.4 nozzles and can print using PLA or PETG material. Filament can be purchased directly from PRUSA or via other vendors such as Amazon. For full details on the service, please visit our 3D printing webpage.
