About
I am currently working on Indigenous materialities (such as objects, agricultural practices, monumentality, etcetera) from both the remote past and the present in the context of Uruguayan history. My project is also an attempt to understand the ways in which we, non-Indigenous subjects, have dealt and deal with said materialities. In particular, I am interested in the ultimate Indigenous materiality: their bodies. The recent irruption of groups of Indigenous peoples (that had been declared extinct by both academics and state officials) in the Uruguayan public sphere has been received with skepticism and hostility. It is this current situation that I am trying to understand in the framework of settler colonialism.
