Teaching Professor and Lecturer II in Spanish, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.
Rashmi Rama grew up in Chicago/ Michigan and before arriving to Ann Arbor, and also lived, studied, and worked in Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and California. She grew up in a bilingual family and has been interested in language learning from a young age. She has taught all courses associated with the elementary language program as well as Spanish 277. She created a Spanish 232 topics course entitled “Cultures in Contact: art and photography of Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Mexico.” She developed this course after conducting a research study about Spanish 232, entitled “Student Perceptions of Spanish 232—an intermediate, content-based course”. This research was presented at an international conference. She enjoys teaching and serving on several different committees. She earned her doctorate in Education, Leadership and Innovation: Higher Education Change. She conducted an action research study of Spanish 231 about the communicative approach and the flipped classroom and presented this research at a national conference. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, taking photos, and traveling.
Research interests:
Her research interests include student perceptions, collaborative language learning, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, higher education, student engagement, and student self-efficacy in language learning.
