Michela Russo

Michela Russo earned her first Ph.D. in political philosophy in Italy, at the Italian Institute of Human Sciences in Naples (SUM), with a thesis on the influences of the French Marxist philosopher Louis Althusser on contemporary political thought. At Texas A&M University, she did her second doctorate in Latin American cultural studies with research on the Plurinational State of Bolivia and popular imaginaries under the presidency of Evo Morales.

At RLL, she is a Lecturer in the Italian and Spanish programs and a founding member of the department's Gender Diversity Committee, dedicated to developing inclusive linguistic practices in Romance language classes. As such, she oversees the Italian research team.

Her teaching and research areas include gender and sexuality in the Hispanic world, film, and political studies, particularly centered on dictatorship, post-dictatorship, and democratization processes in Latin America.
